TSA's stupid security measures
So, I went to Mansfield, MA last week. I spent the week delivering a class on how to use the Oracle JD Edwards interface. It is usually the end-user's first exposure to the software. It went pretty well, I think. Some people got it right away, others didn't. Just like in every other part of life.
However, it was my first dealings with the new security measures. And let me tell you, they are stupid. Maybe they are good PR for the dumb ass summer travelers. But, if you have a brain in your head and are capable of critical thinking, you can see that they are just a panacea to make it look like we are doing something.
Some of the stupid things from the list...
You can take on a corkscrew. Scrape a corkscrew across your arm some day and tell me if that is not potentially dangerous. You can also take on a mini screwdriver for eyeglass repair. You can take on KNITTING NEEDLES! And nail files!
You cannot take toothpaste. But, you can take on stick deoderant.
You cannot take gel deodorant, but you can wear a gel-filled "enhancing" bra.
You can take on 4oz of "personal lubricant". Though after seeing the Snakes on a Plane trailer, who will ever think of the "mile hi club" in the same way?
The best news of all, though, is that you are allowed Toy Transformer Robots. WHEW!
Then, there is the whole prescription medicine thing. You can take on medicines and such with a prescription. How easy is that to fake?
What a dumb ass system. Did I mention that anything without metal you could just stick in your pocket and walk through with?
Until we are going to start profiling for people who look like they are about to do something drastic and patting everyone down, these new steps are just a waste of my time.
For some reason, I think that I am going to get on the watch list...
